

The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations whose mission and programs provide opportunities for Music Education, primarily for underserved communities. This includes, but may not be limited to, music lessons and instruments, exposure to various genres of music, performance opportunities, real-world career opportunities, and curriculum design. In addition, the Foundation also supports Public Broadcasting: The Foundation makes grants to select nonprofit organizations whose programs are innovative and informative for radio, television and other media.

The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations addressing issues of Economic Justice and Economic Development. Programs include community participation, worker organizing, leadership development, advocacy, and policy reform, all of which work toward the goal of a sustainable increase in living standards that include living wages, education, healthcare, and housing.

Grants in this area concentrate on two main issues. First, the Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations whose mission and programs address the issues of Environmental Justice, and include environmental health education and awareness, community participation, organizing and leadership development, and advocacy for policy reform. In addition, the Foundation will provide support to organizations whose mission and programs provide Environmental Education and Environmental Beautification to low-income and underserved communities. Second, the Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations whose mission and programs focus on Food Security and Biodiversity, such as supporting local farming and agriculture, providing agricultural education and nutrition, creating economic opportunities and sustainability, and celebrating traditional/cultural foods.

The Foundation makes grants to organizations that promote comprehensive programs in the areas of water access, women’s and girls’ reproductive health, civil and political rights, and economic development.

The Foundation supports organizations whose mission and programs include sexual education, reproductive health education and services, community outreach, and advocacy.

Grants in this focus area concentrate on two main issues. First, the Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations whose mission and programs address High School Dropout Prevention in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles and in Pacoima in the North San Fernando Valley. Second, the Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations whose mission and programs empower Girls through such programs as educational enrichment, leadership development, and tutoring, mentoring, and financial literacy.
